Resource Workshop for INL Retirees
In the Workshop we will show you: How to break down the filing process for benefits; How to overcome denials; and how to proceed once accepted.
These are Free Resource Workshops for former INL or Argonne West workers that will be held in Idaho Falls, Pocatello and Fort Hall on August 1 and 2, 2017. More than 30,000 former workers in Idaho may qualify for benefits and financial settlements under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness and Compensation Program (EEOICP). Common chronic illnesses among workers include respiratory diseases, pulmonary fibrosis, asbestosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, beryllium diseases and several types of cancer. The benefits for those who qualify may include tax free monetary compensation, as well as free lifetime medical compensation, in-home care, doctor visits, medical equipment and medications related to the approved medical conditions. Many workers have filed and were subsequently denied under the Program. “I hear a lot of stories from former employees who have been denied,” said Al Frowiss, Jr. of The AtomicWorkers™ Advocacy Group. “After we look into the reasons for the denial, we often identify approaches to reopen the case and secure approval.” Frowiss Jr. will be on hand to assist with claims/ “We know the ins and outs of the EEOICP claims process; we understand how to work with the Department of Labor Claims Examiners, to provide the appropriate employment and medical records that leads to successful claims,” said Frowiss.
Once approved, questions continue. “Where and how can I use my Medical Benefits Card?” “Why do I need ‘Home Care?’” and “How do I choose?” Angela Hays Carey, Community Outreach Director for Nuclear Care Partners is an advocate for seniors wrestling with these questions. Her presentation will focus on the who, why and when to access specific benefits associated with your “White Card.” Lindsey Romankiw, a local Attorney with Carey Romankiw Pllc, will also be speaking on how to protect your monetary award with estate planning tips and four documents every retiree needs to make sure their wishes are met under any circumstance. “Too often I am called at the last minute to prepare a Will or Power of Attorney for someone with a terminal illness,” said Romankiw. “Pre-planning not only protects your financial desires, but helps your family more easily cope by knowing your explicit wishes.”
